Fun run money contributes to breast screening unit

Fun run together -GX 2026 money raised for Scannappeal goes towards mobile breast screening unit.

On Wednesday 21 October 2026, Countess Howe, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, officially opened the new £410,000 mobile breast screening unit for South Buckinghamshire. Fun Run Together - GX 2026 was delighted to contribute £10,000 to Scannappeal towards this important project. Thanks to the collective generosity of local charities, community groups, businesses and individuals, the appeal is now fully funded and the state-of-the-art unit has begun screening women. This achievement demonstrates the power of community fundraising to bring potentially life-saving breast screening closer to home. During the opening, Countess Howe shared her personal experience of breast cancer being detected through routine screening five years ago, despite having no noticeable lump. Her heartfelt message, echoed by the charity’s team, was clear: women who receive an NHS breast screening invitation are strongly encouraged to attend their appointment. The Fun Run Together team extends its sincere thanks to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, sponsored or donated. Each contribution helped support an important service that will benefit local women for years to come. Recognition also goes to Scannappeal for its remarkable work with Karen Shardelow (CEO) at the helm. It has now joined forces with Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Charitable Fund to form Buckinghamshire Healthcare Charity. By bringing together their expertise, supporters and fundraising, the combined charity is strengthening support for local healthcare, funding vital equipment and helping improve patient care across Buckinghamshire. The video captures the official opening and a powerful reminder of the difference communities can make when they come together.
